Paper Crafts Magazine to Launch National Card Making Day

Paper Craft Enthusiasts Nationwide Can Enjoy the Connection Handmade Cards Create by Celebrating This Day Individually, with Friends or at Local Paper Craft Stores

BLUFFDALE, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2006--Paper Crafts magazine, America's top crafting magazine for nearly 30 years, will kick off the first annual National Card Making Day, Saturday, Oct. 7. From this year on, the first Saturday in October will celebrate the very personal connection a handmade card creates between friends and family, and kick off the holiday card-making season -- the most popular time for creating and sharing handmade cards. Paper Crafts recognizes the need for this day as this fast-growing hobby now reaches one in six households according to a Craft and Hobby Association survey.

"Making handmade cards is a great way to connect not only to the card recipient, but also to a group of friends who make cards and do paper crafts together," said Stacy Croninger, editor-in-chief of Paper Crafts magazine. "With 92 percent of our readers making cards for the December holidays, Paper Crafts felt this was a perfect event to kick off the holiday card-making season."

During the week leading up to National Card Making Day, the Paper Crafts Web site, www.PaperCraftsMag.com, will provide fun and attractive card ideas, card-making tips, suggestions for group activities and projects, and recipes for snacks. On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Paper Crafts Web site will post hourly projects and giveaways.

Many craft retailers around the country will also be getting into the fun, although Croninger expects that really big things will start to happen in 2007, as both retailers and manufacturers celebrate National Card Making Day in its second year. She encourages consumers to call their favorite craft store to inquire about their participation, or to visit Paper Crafts' easy-to-use store locater at www.PaperCraftsMag.com/storelocator, to find a local retailer nearby.

"Paper Crafts is thrilled to sponsor the first annual National Card Making Day," added Croninger. "Scrapbookers have celebrated National Scrapbooking Day (the first Saturday of May) for nearly a decade. It's time for paper crafts enthusiasts to mark a special day of their own!"
