onescrappymama Brandie, Book of Me was inspired by my own work on a BoM scrapbook.  As I was working on my own BoM, I showed it to friends at crops and they were like, "I don't know if I've ever scrapped a page about mySELF!" So as I was compiling resources for my own sb, I figured I'd compile the resources in one place, to help other people scrap about themselves.  this was waaaay back in the day, mind you.  BoM came out in 2002

brandiev I have to say something about having photos taken of yourself...as many of you know, I am a plus size woman...and I have not really liked my body a whole lot...so I avoided photos being taken. Then I realized years later, that there was nothing of me. I now let photos be taken of me all the time...it's really quite painless after a while.

onescrappymama the little "secret" I share in BoM classes, about being uncomfortable with pics of yourself...even if you don't let people take pictures of you...they still know what you look like.  you're not keeping your weight or your hair or your whatever a "secret".

onescrappymama  think about - as awful as it is - what your kids will feel like if something happened to you, and they had no pictures of you to comfort themselves.  if something happened to your husband or your kids, you'd probably spend hours looking at pictures of them, trying to hold on to that piece of them

onescrappymama and when your loved ones look at you - pictures or in person - they don't see the fat, or the hair, or whatever.  they see a person they love, and very dear to them

onescrappymama It really is about fear, and discomfort, and just not feeling confident.  but that doesn't mean your hands stop working.  you can still scrap, even though you feel uncomfortable with the subject matter.  believe me, the discomfort eases

ScrappingForever i read an article from memory makers a few months back, by karen buck... angie, do you know who she is? have you seen her layouts...about breast cancer. she does some amazing journaling, and her articles are so poignant 

onescrappymama No, I haven't met Karen 

onescrappymama There's a number of ways to approach difficult subjects. Scrap what you're comfortable with addressing at this point. If it's too painful or uncomfortable, the topic will keep until you are in a better place to address it. There is no "statute of limitations" on scrapbook topics! If you want to get some stories/experiences scrapped, but don’t want the general "public" to read your journaling, you can use "hidden journaling" on your layout

onescrappymama Here you journal whatever you want to say about a topic, but "hide" it behind a flap, a pull-out, a card, in a pocket, or on the back of the layout itself. You can read about some techniques for that here: http://www.scrapyourstories.com/hiddenjournaling.htm 

onescrappymama A lot of people struggle with "but what will people think when they see all this 'yucky stuff'". That's one of the hardest things, I think.  We always worry - what will people think??

Then again... some people may look at you DIFFERENTLY -- you'll have become an inspiration.  think about stories you've heard about your mom or your grandma...and you're like, "I had NO IDEA!!" and you're inspired and awed and humbled.  what if your stories do that for someone else?

ScrappingForever nope, not sad at all. it's all about preserving memories...just a different medium 

onescrappymama the one way I do traditional at crops is to work on specific finite projects, like theme albums.  like I just did a simple sb of my kids' trip to South Dakota last summer.  30 pictures -- took me maybe 3-4 hours. but that's a nice project for a crop.

onescrappymama Now I know to create an 8x10 "canvas", so there really is 2" of white space in the image.  Now I just need to resend it to Target.  haven't tried it yet
