Why I Don't Scrapbook

This video pretty much answers the question of why I don't scrapbook - at home.  I crop with a group of girlfriends at stores and retreats as often as I can, which is about monthly to every other month.  But watch this to see why I can't get anything done at home.

So I enrolled in a scrapbooking organization challenge class at a local store. We had two sessions - the first session's assignment was to take "before" pictures, then sort paper. The above video is my "before". I haven't gotten around to sorting paper, but I did purge. BOY, did I purge. I had to do that before I sorted - why sort what you're going to purge? Details of my purge in the next post.

Scrapbooking Idea: One Little Word

Via The Mini-Skinny e-newsletter from ScrapbookGraphics, a link to an interesting new blog/challenge: One Little Word.

Welcome to One Little Word, also known as OLW. This is your place to reflect on and celebrate the power of WORDS. Every other week our Creative Team will bring you awesome pages and projects focused on One Little Word to inspire you...

How do I play along?

ANYONE can play along, we call you Wordsters...Layouts of all sizes, mini albums, tags, canvases, Home Decor, etc are welcomed.  Traditional, Hybrid, Digital too...We post a new WORD (aka WORD UP!) every other Wednesday.  You have until the following Friday by Midnight Mountain Time (GMT -7:00) to link up your projects [consider posting using their Flickr tag: onelittleword.

Read the One Little Word FAQ (frequently asked questions) for more info on this interesting challenge.

This could make for some interesting additions to a Book of Me - for each word prompt, think about how that word applies to YOU and your stories. Hmmmm....

Using E-Cuts Printables in Digital Scrapbooking

Great article at ScrapJazz on Using E-Cuts Printables in Digital Scrapbooking.

E-Cuts are printable scrapbooking embellishments - you may remember I mentioned them in a previous post: Digital Scrapbooking Tip: Convert PDFs to Graphic Files.

The ScrapJazz article linked above gives step-by-step instructions on using ECuts with digital layouts - specifically how to "alter" them so you can seamlessly add a photo to an ECut mat.  Very clever.  And quite do-able.

I'm currently working on an album for my husband for our 15th wedding anniversary - I may have to sift through my collection of ECuts to see if I can make the project a bit easier to complete!  :)

52 Blessings - a photo journal

Have you heard about the 52 Blessings Flickr group?

Once a week post a photo of something you are most grateful for. This gives us a chance to reflect on the good things we have learned from or that have made us better in our everyday lives or things we just enjoy! I think everyone needs to be more grateful for what they have now days instead of always thinking about what we want! This is one of the things we can do to be more gracious people. It will be like a photo gratitude journal.

How amazing would this theme album be??  "52 Blessings" actually has the ring of a Shimelle class

Just love this idea.

Scrapbooking Idea: Banished Words List

It's New Year Day, and Lake Superior State University has released it's Banished Words List for 2008.

...the annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness has been going strong since New Year's Day 1976 and shows no signs of stopping. People from around the world have nominated hundreds of words and phrases such as "you know," "user friendly," "at this point in time," and "have a nice day," to be purged from the language.

This list would make an interesting social-culture addition to your scrapbooks, to illustrate the "flavor" of discussions in the media and in modern-day life.

On this year's list:

  • "Perfect Storm"
  • Webinar
  • Waterboarding
  • Organic
  • Wordsmith/Wordsmithing
  • Author/Authored
  • "Post 9/11"
  • Surge
  • "Give Back"
  • 'BLANK' is the new 'BLANK' or 'X' is the new 'Y'
  • Black Friday
  • "Back in the Day"
  • Random –  i.e. 'You are so random!'
  • Sweet – a la Cartman from South Park, "similar to awesome."
  • Decimate
  • Emotional –as in "this has been an emotional day for me."
  • POP – as in 'the addition of the red really makes it POP.'
  • "It is what it is"
  • "Under the bus"

Also - "...the committee restores 'truthiness,' banned on last year's list, to formal use."

Read banished word lists from previous years.

Book of Me Idea: Take a Personality Quiz

A quick & easy Book of Me page topic - what's your personality type?  Fortunately or unfortunately, "Type A" describes me rather well.

You Have A Type A Personality
You are hyper, energetic, and always on the mood.  You tend to succeed at everything you attempt.  And if you don't succeed at first, you quickly climb your way to the top!

You could be called a workaholic, but you also make time for fun, as long as it's high energy and competitive, you're interested.  You have the perfect personality for business and athletic success.
