Michelle at Scrapability has posted her most recent Scrapblog of the Week, and the award goes to Mixed Media Memoirs.
Mixed Media Memoirs is a very new blog, with big objectives, similar to many other Meme or challenge type blogs such as Self Portrait Tuesday or some of the photo or sketch challenges. As the owner, Melba has a vision that appears to be a cross between scrapbooking our memories, and the art journals which are taking our world by storm lately. The intentions of MMM are to provide Monday challenges to spur participants on to create new entries documenting in mixed media either old journal entries about ourselves, or new ones created to fit the challenge theme.
Any previous participants in Shimelle Laine’s Art Journal online classes, or even Book of Me type classes will see the similarities and possibiities in participating in something similar as a regular challenge. The topics posted each week do not close down, so you have forever to accomplish them, with no duress to even provide something.
WOW. VERY cool resource! Love the concept, love the prompts.
I am intimidated by art journal-ing, though, I must admit. I enrolled in my friend Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas class, and got pages done for Day 1 and (a month later) Day 2. VEEEEEERY impressive, Ang. But the more I saw images of what other people were doing with their journals, the more I wanted to do something like that, but felt just paralyzed when it came to actually doing it. I want to create this freeform art, I really do, but if I actually take the time to get out my supplies, it still looks so scrapbook-y. Not that there's anything wrong with that...I just want a more art-y look. It probably takes practice, and patience, neither of which I have allowed myself.
Mixed Media Memoirs looks like another good opportunity for practice. Thanks to Michelle for the heads up.

Thanks for posting about MMM. One of the reasons I started making Mixed Media Memoirs is because I liked all the scrapbooking products, but I wasn't into scrapping about the tradition (family) stuff. I wanted to make art (not that scrapbooking isn't art, but I think you know what I mean...). I just do a little art at a time. Paint a background while the kids are eating lunch, paste on some pictures while they are watching cartoons, maybe finish and post during their nap. A page usually takes me a few days, but I find I NEED to create...it is a necessary outlet for me being a stay at home mom. I invite you to try one of the topics from MMM. Pick one that speaks to you and do a little at a time. Remember there is no pressure and no deadlines...just create and have fun!
