I was just thinking about this tonight. It seems blogs give a face to a corporate entity. They give a business a personality and a human connection. A few scrap companies I've seen this really work for: Kristina at 2Peas, Wendi at Wendi Speciale, Donna Downey, and I haven't read it yet but I hear Melody Ross has one now too. I think company blogs are to 2005/2006 what Design Teams were to 2003/2004.

This industry must remember that the great majority of scrappers are women, who by nature seek out a personal connection to the things that are important to them. It's the ultimate in personal branding.

You're absolutely right, Sarah -- 1) I can't believe I didn't mention Kristina's and Wendi's blogs. They definitely promote their businesses. I don't know that I'd include Donna's in that category of business/professional blog, though -- she does write it, and blogs about projects she's working on, but I don't consider it as "promotional" of her work, such as announcing availability, or requesting feedback on new directions, or otherwise generating more work/income for herself. (Not that mine has generated income for me, either, but that's part of my intent, at least! LOL)

Interesting point: "I think company blogs are to 2005/2006 what Design Teams were to 2003/2004". I never would have seen this "trend" -- good eye, Sarah!

I like your point about women seeking a personal connection. I also agree that blogging is definitely a way to connect with a female audience, establishing a company's brand. Now we just need to make blogs more prevalently read among women (or even people in general). I think I read recently that only 6% of the population reads blogs, or something similarly low. Which continues to amaze me, with how much time I personally spend on blogs, either writing or reading them.

Angie,

Checked out and subscribed to your personal blog after hearing your interview on ScrapCast. I have had your SB news feed in RSSBandit for a while. I also signed up for a "all about me" page swap in a local scrapping group (July Memory Makers) I am the "token male" in. LOL I look forward to it.

Now about this post of yours I would check out http://redcouch.typepad.com/weblog/ which is a book about coorporate blogging. THey posted the chapters on the blog and even about thier TOC and selecting a publisher. It may be of interest in you in this pursuit.

And hey, good luck with your AAM swap -- I'd love to see your layout when it's done!

Great info Angie, and right up my alley. I'm an artist, marketer, writer and now an unstoppable Blogging Evangelist so I immediately recoqnized that fine characteristic in what you write as well :^)

In fact when someone told me about my blog enthusiasm "gosh, I'd hate to be around if you got religion" I was flattered! And gee, I'd feel rotten if I didn't share what I've learned about Blogging, since everyone who does any kind of business with the public is nuts not to write one; and I'll bet you would as well!
